J. Robert March shot his first black and white photographs on a Minolta SRT-201 film camera when he was just 10 years old. Inspired by his late aunt (a professional nature and landscape photographer), J.R. was blessed to be taken on so many ‘exploration trips’ from such a young age. As a child with passion for geography, J.R. would stare at topographic maps for hours, taking notes on points-of-interest in the hopes that one day his parents and/or aunt & uncle might take him to those places. Also sharing a passion for railroads, J.R. has spent most of his life photographing trains and the beautiful scenery they traverse. Having shot over 200,000 images by his mid-30s (including negatives, slides, and digital), J.R.’s photo collection has been kept mostly hidden in filing cabinets and hard drives… until now! Shooting all those years merely for pleasure, peer pressure from countless family members and friends inspired J.R. to share his passion for photography, geography, and travel with the world.
J.R. is a life-long native of Cleveland, Ohio, where he still resides. With a passion for outdoor photography, J.R. spends much of his time exploring the backroads of northern Ohio and the surrounding states. Favorite locales include downtown Cleveland, Ohio Amish Country (specifically Wayne and Holmes counties), North Central Ohio farm country, and ‘Coal Country’ (rural Appalachia in VA, WV, KY and TN). From the big city to the mountains, and all the rolling farmland in between, J.R. loves capturing the essence of every scene and situation.
